Scherrer Construction completes 80,000 square foot probiotics facility

Full-Service General Contractor and Construction Management Company Completes Supporting Life Cultures USA Facility

A groundbreaking ceremony and open house was held on June 23 with the CSL USA team, local and state officials, Excel Engineering (architect), and Scherrer Construction (general contractor) to celebrate the completion of the facility.

Scherrer Construction, a full-service general contractor and construction management company, in partnership with Excel Engineering, recently completed construction of Cultures Supporting Life (CSL) USA in Franksville, Wisconsin. This is the first probiotic manufacturing facility in the United States.

The 80,000 square foot facility will support the growing food, beverage, health and nutrition markets. The manufacturing plant includes several offices, a laboratory and freezers that cool to minus 58°F. There are also clean room process spaces to support the research, development, manufacturing and distribution of probiotic strains for the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food and agri-livestock industries.

“The process of building this facility was unique because the owner wanted the flexibility to one day be certified by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The construction details reflect the efforts made to meet these requirements,” explained Steven Richard, project manager. Director at Scherrer Construction. “We have built clean rooms with temperature and humidity controls to meet the rigorous hygiene standards required by our customers.”
