The Queensland government has appointed Hutchinson builders as managing contractor for the satellite hospital program. The program will provide seven new facilities in North and South Brisbane, Bribie Island and the communities of Caboolture, Gold Coast, Ipswich and Redland City.

Public Works and Purchasing Minister Mick de Brenni said each of the seven facilities will help meet the growing demand for health services across the state.

The new facilities will function as mini-hospitals, providing services in urban areas and providing healthcare to Queenslanders close to where they live and work, Deputy Prime Minister Steven Miles said.

Hutchinson Builders chief executive Greg Quinn said his company, which will celebrate its 110th anniversary next year, has significant experience in health and education projects across the Sunshine State. “We are already working with local consultants and educating local subcontractors and local suppliers to make sure we meet tight deadlines and produce top quality output for Queenslanders,” Quinn said.

The range of services provided by the Queensland Government Satellite Hospitals includes low acuity community health, outpatient and day therapy services – such as chemotherapy, emergency care for minor injuries and illnesses – as well as ambulatory activities.
