PHOTO TOUR: Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital – Bartram Campus

Brooks Rehabilitation opened its brand new inpatient rehabilitation hospital at its 115-acre Bartram campus in Jacksonville, Florida in April.

Designed by Gresham Smith (Jacksonville, Florida), Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital – Bartram Campus houses services for patients after stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, orthopedic surgery transplant or other disabling illness .

The facility’s design comprises three floors, which separate the patient-centric spaces on the upper two floors from the administrative suites and “backhouse” services on the first floor.

The 76,000-square-foot, 60-bed facility has eight negative air pressure rooms, two therapy gymnasiums, a daily living activity suite, a four-bay dialysis suite, a pharmacy with chemotherapy preparation capabilities and bariatric patient rooms.

To utilize the benefits of nature during the healing process, an outdoor therapy yard with several different terrains, including grass, wood, concrete, stone, and turf, helps patients practice walking and walking. wheel to prepare for their return home. The yard also includes a putting green, hand bike and tricycle for additional recreational activities.

Balconies on the upper two floors provide connections to the outdoors and fresh air.

The interior design uses different color palettes in the active therapy and recovery spaces to create an intuitive and purposeful separation between the two patient areas. Plus, a comprehensive signage and wayfinding plan lets patients know when they’re headed for active therapy and for rest and recovery.

In gyms and living rooms, a color palette of vibrant blues and purples, combined with forward-looking graphics, generate a sense of movement and energy that complements the technology present in each space. In the patient rooms, a neutral brown color scheme and abstract images of nature create a calm, peaceful and restful atmosphere.

On the west side of the building, self-shading glass in the therapy gymnasiums helps reduce heat gain, reduce energy costs, while helping to keep patients comfortable during their active therapy sessions.
