On-loan Bournemouth defender enters Team of the Week after impressive win

Shortly after Bournemouth Under-18s’ success in winning the EFL Youth Alliance league, their former captain Sam Sherring was included in the League One team of the week, having featured in the 2-0 victory home to Cambridge United.

On Saturday morning, the youth side drew 2-2 with Plymouth Argyle at the Canford Park Arena, meaning the Cherries won the South West Division title on goal difference.

Later in the day, Sherring, currently on loan at Cambridge, proved vital to his side by keeping a clean sheet, with an imposing display at the heart of the back four. The 21-year-old had three tackles, won six aerial duels and racked up a Who scored rating of 7.7.

His side would go on to beat Accrington Stanley in the closing stages of the game, with goals from Sam Smith and veteran Wes Hoolahan moving the U’s to 14th in the League One table.

Former Cherries player Sam Vokes, now at Wycombe Wanderers, was also included in the team of the week.
