15 Beekman Street begins its rise in Manhattan’s Financial District

Construction is ramping up at 15 Beekman Street, Pace University’s new 27-story expansion in the Financial District. Designed by Manish Chadha of Ismael Leyva Architects and developed by SL Green Realty, the 338-foot-tall tower will produce 213,084 square feet with classrooms, dormitories, dining hall, library and learning center . New Line Structures & Development is the general contractor for the property, which is alternately addressed at 126-132 Nassau Street and is located at the corner of Beekman and Nassau streets.

Progress has been extremely rapid since our last update less than a month ago when construction was still below ground level. Work quickly reached street level and the reinforced concrete superstructure now rises three stories high, with a mechanical hoist attached to the west elevation facing Nassau Street and timber forms assembled in view of the following levels .

A red construction crane now dominates the north side of the building footprint, while sidewalks around 15 Beekman Street remain temporarily blocked.

The structure will feature a five-story podium followed by a setback before rising evenly to a flat parapet. Given the repetitive nature of the ground slabs and the pace so far, it’s possible the superstructure could peak in the fall.

15 Beekman Street is expected to be completed in the summer of 2023, as shown on the onsite board.
